چکیده

Abstract A new small-diameter Monitored Drift Tube (sMDT) chamber has been developed for the muon spectrometer of ATLAS experiment to handle higher collision rates expected at CERN High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). This paper presents measurements tracking resolution and hit efficiency two prototype sMDT chambers constructed University Michigan. Using cosmic-ray muons 103.7 ± 8.1 ?m was measured one 101.8 7.8 other, compared with a design 106 ?m. further improvement 83.4 obtained by using high-gain readout electronics which will be added HL-LHC. An average (98.5 0.2)% found both chambers. The methodology used determine detector efficiency, including reconstruction data Geant4 simulation test chamber, is presented in detail.

Silicon strip detectors for ATLAS at the HL-LHC upgrade

The present ATLAS silicon strip tracker (SCT) and transition radiation tracker (TRT) are to be replaced with new silicon strip detectors as part of the inner tracker system (ITK) for the Phase-II upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider, HL-LHC. We have carried out intensive R&D programs based on n-on-p microstrip detectors to fabricate improved radiation hard strip detectors that can survive the r...

Development of n-in-p pixel modules for the ATLAS Upgrade at HL-LHC

Thin planar pixel modules are promising candidates to instrument the inner layers of the new ATLAS pixel detector for HLLHC, thanks to the reduced contribution to the material budget and their high charge collection efficiency after irradiation. 100-200 μm thick sensors, interconnected to FE-I4 read-out chips, have been characterized with radioactive sources and beam tests at the CERN-SPS and D...

Calibration of the ATLAS Muon Spectrometer Precision Chambers for Initial LHC Beam Collisions

ATLAS is a general purpose experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN which began operation in September, 2009. ATLAS has a large muon spectrometer which is designed to measure muon momentum with a resolution ranging from 3% at 100 GeV/c to 10% at 1 TeV for a pseudorapidity range of 0-2.7. In this paper, we describe the derivation and validation of calibration constants for the Monit...

Design and Prototype Performance of the ATLAS Pixel Detector

The ATLAS experiment at the LHC will have three barrel and two times ve disk layers of silicon pixel detectors as the innermost elements of the Inner Tracking Detector. The detector is built adopting the hybrid pixel technology in which 16 highly performant FE chips are connected to a silicon sensor by means of the bump and ip-chip technique. Owing to the high bunch crossing rate of 40 MHz at t...

A Highly Selective First-Level Muon Trigger With MDT Chamber Data for ATLAS at HL-LHC

Highly selective triggers are essential for the physics programme of the ATLAS experiment at HL-LHC where the instantaneous luminosity will be about an order of magnitude larger than the LHC instantaneous luminosity in Run 1. The first level muon trigger rate is dominated by low momentum muons below the nominal trigger threshold due to the moderate momentum resolution of the Resistive Plate and...
